5 Questions with…Harper the Shop Cat!

Welcome to this month’s 5 Questions with…! It’s Fischarper’s first feline interview. 🙂

Do you follow H. Bryan & Company on Instagram? If you do, you’ve probably seen Harper the Shop Cat. She graciously agreed to do this interview in between her responsibilities at the shop.

How did you get your position as “Shop Cat” at H. Bryan & Company?

“I clawed my way to the top! Just kidding. My New Year’s resolution in 2019 was to find some place interesting to grow up. I was awaiting adoption at our local animal shelter. H. Bryan & Co’s owner Matt Yates adopted me when I was four months old and I’ve been a harp apprentice-in-training and full-time resident of the shop ever since.”

What do your duties at the shop include?

“I’m responsible for greeting customers, providing moral support, overseeing the gilding process from behind the picture window, keeping the laptop warm and cozy, and curling up in as many pedal boxes as possible. I also take care of any and all catnapping that needs doing around the shop.”

What’s your favorite thing to do at the shop?

“I love dozing off in the showroom sunshine, being in the middle of everything going on, and chasing crickets.”

Can you tell us a little about this cool harp base cat bed?

“Matt saw that my favorite place to sleep as a kitten was a pedal box, so he and Sherry gave me one of my very own, complete with a black lacquer finish and my name in gilding. I’m a pretty spoiled cat, you could say. “

Any recommendations for future “5 Questions with…” guests?

“I’d recommend getting to know my co-workers, Matt Yates and Sherry Shackleford! Of course, they’d be lost without me, but they’re pretty knowledgeable about all things to do with antique and modern pedal harp restoration. They’re pretty cool cats!
